{Rwanda National Police (RNP) and Youth Volunteers in Community Policing(YVCP) on August 01 joined residents of Rulindo District in launching a weeklong Umuganura activities that will culminated into celebrations on August 05.}<\/p>\n

Umuganura – the National Harvest Day, is a cultural concept of the thanksgiving day celebrated on first Friday of August every year.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the event to launch the activities in Rusiga Sector, the mayor of Rulindo District Emmanuel Kayiranga pointed out that one of the key celebrations is public safety that Rwandans are enjoying today.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe extend our special thanks to Rwanda National Police for facilitating the establishment of Rwanda Youth Volunteers in Community Policing an organ that has contributed tremendously in ensuring public safety,\u201d said Kayiranga.<\/p>\n

He went on to say that without security there wouldn\u2019t be development and there won’t be any for celebrations.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe pledge to cooperate with RNP and other stakeholders in ensuring that we maintain the security we enjoy today,\u201d the mayor added.<\/p>\n

Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Murenzi Sebakondo who represented RNP urged thousands of Rulindo residents who attended the event to be patriotic in everything they do saying that; \u201cPatriotism will drive you in being part of community policing. Remember RNP can\u2019t have a policeman everywhere, that\u2019s why you should be the eyes and ears of the police in your localities.\u201d<\/p>\n

He went on urge them to always share information with security organs whenever they encounter any body breaching or violating the law. .<\/p>\n

\u201cWe celebrate Umuganura today because we have achieved a lot in line with security and this is due to good leadership. As we celebrate, we should as well reflect on how we should consolidate and preserve what we have achieved,\u201d said CSP Sebakondo.<\/p>\n

Jean Bosco Mutangana who spoke on behalf of Youth Volunteers, thanked RNP for facilitating YVCP in fulfilment their roles in crime prevention. <\/p>\n

“We are ready protect and preserve what our elders have achieved for this country” Mutangana pledged on behalf of others. <\/p>\n

The event was marked by giving children milk as a cultural gesture of celebrating the achievements registered in the year.<\/p>\n
