{"id":27140,"date":"2016-07-23T03:33:26","date_gmt":"2016-07-23T03:33:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/27-pupils-admitted-over-suspected-food-poisoning\/"},"modified":"2016-07-23T03:34:44","modified_gmt":"2016-07-23T03:34:44","slug":"27-pupils-admitted-over-suspected-food-poisoning","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/27-pupils-admitted-over-suspected-food-poisoning\/","title":{"rendered":"Uganda:27 pupils admitted over suspected food poisoning"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>{At the children\u2019s ward, about eight of the pupils clad in their uniforms laid on the hospital beds while on drip.}<\/p>\n<p>About 27 pupils of Kings Kid Primary School, Soroti District have been admitted to Soroti Regional Referral Hospital over alleged food poisoning.<\/p>\n<p>The pupils were rushed this morning (Friday) to the children\u2019s ward and the outpatient department at Soroti hospital where they are being attended to by several doctors and nurses.<\/p>\n<p>At the children\u2019s ward, about eight of the pupils clad in their uniforms laid on the hospital beds while on drip.<\/p>\n<p>Mr James Peter Odeke, the school head teacher told Daily Monitor that the children started feeling stomach upsets and vomiting on Thursday evening, but they were attended to by the school nurse.<\/p>\n<p>He said when their condition worsened, the school management called the hospital administration which advised them to rush the children to the hospital for further medication.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs we talk now, some of the pupils have been discharged and will be going home with their parents,\u201d Mr Odeke added.<\/p>\n<p>He refuted claims of food poisoning, saying from what the medics have shown them, it is Malaria that had caused stomach upsets and vomiting among the children. Mr Odeke said the affected pupils are in the school\u2019s boarding section especially from primary four to six.<\/p>\n<p>However, a nurse who asked not be named said of all the tests done, there are no confirmatory presence of Malaria parasites in any of the pupils blood.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI suspect the food that the pupils ate could have caused the stomach upsets and vomiting,\u201d she said, adding that the pupils are recovering.<\/p>\n<p>One of the parents identified as Florence Apio, said she rushed to the hospital only to find that one of the children was her daughter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell I have interacted with the nurses and they tell me, there is no need to worry,\u201d she said, adding after her daughter is discharged, she will have to take her home for further monitoring.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>{At the children\u2019s ward, about eight of the pupils clad in their uniforms laid on the hospital beds while on drip.} About 27 pupils of Kings Kid Primary School, Soroti District have been admitted to Soroti Regional Referral Hospital over alleged food poisoning.
