{"id":27020,"date":"2016-07-19T00:55:34","date_gmt":"2016-07-19T00:55:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/police-operations-seize-illicit-substances-five\/"},"modified":"2016-07-19T00:55:26","modified_gmt":"2016-07-19T00:55:26","slug":"police-operations-seize-illicit-substances-five","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/police-operations-seize-illicit-substances-five\/","title":{"rendered":"Police operations seize illicit substances, five arrested"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>{Separate Police operations conducted on July 17 in Huye, Kicukiro and Gicumbi districts have seized several illegal substances including 3385 liters of locally made brew common known as muriture, 23 bottles of Eagle gin and 273 dozens of Chief Waragi.}<\/p>\n<p>Five people were arrested in connection with the act.<\/p>\n<p>The illicit gin was seized in Gicumbi where a vehicle, Toyota Hiance registration number RAC 916 L driven by Gaspard Bizimana was intercepted transporting the 23 bottles of Eagle gin and 273 dozens of Chief waragi.<\/p>\n<p>In Huye, two people identified as Philippe Ukobukeye and Charlotte Mukandebe were also arrested after they were caught red-handed distilling muriture. Police also recovered 2785 liters of the illicit substance, which they had already distilled.<\/p>\n<p>Jean Bosco Mahoro and Jeanne Uwibereyeho were also arrested in Kicukiro in connection with the production of 600 liters of banned local brew.<\/p>\n<p>Reacting on the arrests, the Southern region police spokesperson Chief inspector of Police (CIP), Andr\u00e9 Hakizimana said this is part of the routine operations facilitated by information provided by members of the public.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery citizen should understand the consequences related to drug abuse and be more determined to fight them\u2026 Do not connive or shield those who break the law&#8230;always endeavor to work with Police and local authorities to identify those who manufacture and deal in illicit substances,\u201d he appealed.<\/p>\n<p> He cited a ministerial order n\u00ba20\/35 of 09\/6\/2015 determining unauthorized drinks and other controlled substances classified as narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and precursors saying that the outlawed substances affects one\u2019s thinking and productivity thus affecting the nation.<\/p>\n<p>Article 594 of the penal code stipulates in part that, any person who, unlawfully, makes, transforms, imports, or sells narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances within the country, shall be liable to a term of imprisonment of up to five year years and a fine of up to Rwf5 million.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"spip-document spip-document-13627 aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/en-images.igihe.com\/png\/csm_huye_dist_26_55c452516d.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>{Separate Police operations conducted on July 17 in Huye, Kicukiro and Gicumbi districts have seized several illegal substances including 3385 liters of locally made brew common known as muriture, 23 bottles of Eagle gin and 273 dozens of Chief Waragi.} Five people were arrested in connection with the act.
