{Police in Nyamagabe District has arrested three men in connection with theft of a 50-meter long electrical cable belonging to Energy Utility Corporation Limited (EUCL). } <\/p>\n
The suspects identified as Jean de Dieu Nsanzimfura, Peter Mbanjineza, and Fran\u00e7ois Ndicunguye, were arrested on June 29, following police investigations into series of electric cables theft in the district.<\/p>\n
Reacting to the arrest, the District Police Commander (DPC), Superintendent of Police (SP) Fran\u00e7ois Segakware said, \u201cRecently, EUCL filed a case of theft of electric cables in different places. We immediately started investigations and we recovered a 50-metre long high voltage cable at Nsanzimfura\u2019s house.\u201d <\/p>\n
Upon recovering the cables, police initiated tracking operations and arrested other three suspects who are believed to be Involved.<\/p>\n
The DPC went on to say that a complaint filed by EUCL indicated that, the total length of cables stolen were 300 meters in different places. <\/p>\n
The three suspects are held at Gasaka police station as police investigation in the case proceeds. <\/p>\n
\u201cThese infrastructures are meant to support community development and the country in general; vandalizing them means slowing down development, which we must stop at cost,\u201d SP Segakware <\/p>\n
He appealed to the general public to protect jealously such public facilities and always report to police anyone they see digging them up or trying to cut them.<\/p>\n
The suspects risk a jail sentence of up to two years if found guilty as stipulated by article 300 of the penal code.<\/p>\n
