{A motorcycle, which was reported stolen recently in Nyagatare District, has been intercepted in Bugesera District and suspected thief was arrested and currently detained at Ruhuha police station.} <\/p>\n
The motorcycle RD 927A was stolen on Tuesday this week in Mimuri Sector of Nyagatare District. <\/p>\n
It was intercepted at about 1:30am by a community night patrol in Bishenyi Village of Murama Cell in Ngeruka Sector of Bugesera district. <\/p>\n
The suspect identified as Celestin Nkurunziza, a 30 years old resident of Muhima Sector in Nyarugenge District, was apprehended by the local patrol through a porous border. Nkurunziza, however, denied knowledge that the motorcycle had been stolen.
\n\u201cOn Tuesday evening, I was approached by a motorcyclist in Kigali called Jean Paul that he had a business for me. We met in Nyamirambo at around 9am and told me that there was a person coming from Nyagatare with a motorcycle they wanted to take Ngeruka (Bugesera); Jean Paul asked me to accompany them since I was conversant with the area,\u201d Nkurunziza argued.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was my first time to meet this man who was coming from Nyagatare, whom I later came to know that he\u2019s called Alphonse. They gave me the motorcycle and they both (Alphonse and Jean Paul) rode on another one as we headed to Ngeruka.\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe made a stopover in Gahanga, went to a bar until 11pm and resumed the journey to Ngeruka, but as we were approaching the border , we were stopped by Irondo patrols, they (Alphonse and Jean Paul), who were traveling on the same motorcycle immediately turned around and rode off. I stopped and that\u2019s how I was arrested.\u201d
\nAccording to Nkurunziza, he was supposed to be paid Rwf20, 000 for the job.<\/p>\n
Police spokesperson for the Eastern Province, Inspector of Police (IP) Emmanuel Kayigi said that investigations are underway to locate and apprehend both Alphonse and Jean Paul.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is likely that Nkurunziza could be connected to the motorcycle theft since he\u2019s not a resident of Bugesera, never worked there but knows well the routes crossing through porous borders ,\u201d said IP Kayigi.<\/p>\n
