Definitely,\u201d Prime Minister Omar Abdirashid Ali Sharmarke told the Washington Post. \u201cBut you have to calibrate the way they are coming back. You can\u2019t just throw them back with nothing,\u201d the number-two Somali leader said in an interview conducted on Monday and published on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe said that the Somali government is still trying to persuade the Kenyan government to extend the life of the camps, saying that three years would be a more realistic timeline,\u201d the Post reported.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe don\u2019t want Kenya to push out refugees at this stage in time, because it can create much more insecurity if these refugees are just kind of thrown out, with nothing on the civil society end,\u201d Mr Sharmarke said. \u201cThese are youth\u2014they can join radical groups and create more instability for the two countries.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Kenyan government\u2019s insistence that Dadaab must close this year may reflect political calculations, Mr Sharmarke suggested.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe understand that Kenya is going through elections, and that the decision might be political also,\u201d he told the Post.<\/p>\n<p>The official also rejected Kenya\u2019s claim that the attack last year on Garissa University College was planned in Dadaab.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere was blame on refugees, that there was a link between what happened and refugees from Dadaab,\u201d Mr Sharmarke recounted. \u201cI don\u2019t want to dispute what the Kenyan authorities are saying, but nonetheless, it was Kenyans who really carried it out, Kenyan Muslims.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"spip-document spip-document-12843 aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/en-images.igihe.com\/jpg\/somalia_photo.jpg\" alt=\"Dadaab refugee complex on July 24, 2011. \" \/><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>{He suggested Kenyan government\u2019s insistence that Dadaab must close this year may reflect political calculations.} Closing the Dadaab refugee complex this year \u201cwould be very tough,\u201d Somalia\u2019s prime minister has said, suggesting it would be more realistic to set a 2019 deadline for emptying the camps. \u201cWe want our refugees back.
