{"id":25913,"date":"2016-06-08T01:25:33","date_gmt":"2016-06-08T01:25:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/tanzania-nec-hands-over-12bn-it-saved-from-2015\/"},"modified":"2016-06-08T01:25:06","modified_gmt":"2016-06-08T01:25:06","slug":"tanzania-nec-hands-over-12bn-it-saved-from-2015","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/tanzania-nec-hands-over-12bn-it-saved-from-2015\/","title":{"rendered":"Tanzania:NEC hands over 12bn\/- it saved from 2015 polls"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>{The National Electoral Commission (NEC) handed over 12bn\/- to President John Magufuli, which was saved after last year\u2019s general election.}<\/p>\n<p>NEC Chairman, Judge (retired) Damian Lubuva handed the cheque to the President at the State House in Dar es Salaam, saying the saving did not in any way affect the polls\u2019 conduct.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlthough we had a short time to prepare, we managed to save such an amount, which did not affect the electoral process at all,\u201d said Judge Lubuva.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking shortly after receiving the dummy cheque for the said amount, President Magufuli commended the NEC for saving such amount and handing it over to the government to cater for other activities of national importance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis reflects how NEC is very honest. A sum of 270bn\/- was allocated for last October\u2019s polls. They spent 261.6bn\/-.<\/p>\n<p>You would have even said that no amount has remained and no one would have discovered or doubted it,\u201d he noted, commending the electoral body \u2018\u2019for their sincerity and austerity spirit\u2019\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>He called on other public institutions to learn from the NEC and put the nation\u2019s interests first.
