{"id":25903,"date":"2016-06-07T08:59:47","date_gmt":"2016-06-07T08:59:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/sugar-imports-to-be-taxed-traders-warned-against\/"},"modified":"2016-06-07T09:09:10","modified_gmt":"2016-06-07T09:09:10","slug":"sugar-imports-to-be-taxed-traders-warned-against","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/sugar-imports-to-be-taxed-traders-warned-against\/","title":{"rendered":"Sugar imports to be taxed, traders warned against hiking prices"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>{The Ministry of Trade and Industry has revealed that it\u2019s undergoing a process of reforming the way taxes on sugar imports are paid in the near future.}<\/p>\n<p>Kabuye sugar plant is the only sugar manufacturer in Rwanda but the produced quantity is insufficient to satisfy the market across the country.<\/p>\n<p>This prompts Rwanda to import sugar from across the world without taxing its importation.<\/p>\n<p>This was revealed by the Minister of Trade and Industry, Kanimba Fran\u00e7ois during an open discussion with members of the Liberal Party held last Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>Minister Kanimba explained that Rwanda had waived off taxes from sugar imports since it is a basic need that is essential in daily lives of Rwandans. <\/p>\n<p>Kanimba noted that the current project in the offing, of constructing another sugar factory in the country may prompt the government to levy a 25% in taxes.This is a small levy compared to what other countries charge\u2014at 100% in other East African Countries. \u201cWe can\u2019t allow continued sugar importation from India, Brazil at 0%  taxes.
