We all have to join efforts and means to report and prevent such violence from happening.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe government has ensured that everyone \u2013 man, woman and child \u2013 is given equal opportunity to contribute to Rwanda\u2019s development. Let us therefore take this opportunity and embrace equality for all.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The District Community Liaison Officer, Inspector of Police (IP) Athanase Niyonagira, said: \u201cEveryone, who is below the age of 18, is considered a child and have basic rights that have to be respects. The same applies to all people of all walks of life\u2026any form abuse on a person and violation of their rights is criminal and punishable by law,\u201d said IP Niyonagira.<\/p>\n<p>On Gender Based Violence, IP Niyonagira, said that it can be physical, psychological or mental and that\u2019s why dealing with it requires concerted effort.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGBV encompasses extensive human rights violations including brutality, battering and harassment.  Any of these abuses can leave profound mental scars, damage the wellbeing of the victim. Particularly, violence against women and children is considered the most insidious human rights violation,\u201d said the DCLO.<\/p>\n<p>He further added that GBV has devastating consequences not only for victims but also for society.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGBV has significant impact at the individual level, with victims suffering from physical and mental effects, loss of earnings and healthcare costs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p> \u201cIt also has a wider societal negative impact including lower productivity and thus reduced economic output and growth, and increased pressure on social and health services.
