Gasana has hailed members of Rwanda Youth Volunteers in Community Policing (RYVCP) for their partnership in ensuring public safety.}<\/p>\n<p>The Police Chief further urged them to play a significant role in the upcoming community policing activities to mark the 16th anniversary of Rwanda National Police (RNP).<\/p>\n<p>He said this on May 31 while meeting 52 representatives of RYVCP from all districts and their national leadership, held at the RNP headquarters in Kacyiru.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYour effort in ensuring public safety is highly commendable,\u201d IGP Gasana said.<\/p>\n<p>He, however, urged them strengthen the community policing activities of their organisation for sustainable safety and security.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMaximum discipline, innovation, teamwork, frequent information sharing are value addition in whatever you do\u201d said IGP Gasana.<\/p>\n<p>He went on to urge them to exploit all means of communication especially social media in engaging with the public to collectively ensure that all Rwandans are on board in building a safer and prosperous society.<\/p>\n<p>In his advice to youth volunteers, the IGP  tipped them on using cultural troupes, music, dance and drama in extending anti-crime awareness to the public.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSoon, RNP will mark its 16th anniversary which will involve a week of human security and awareness activities, and as usual, your active participation will be crucial,\u201d said IGP Gasana.<\/p>\n<p>In his reaction, the national coordinator of RYVCP, Justus Kangwagye said that youth volunteers countrywide are ready to take up a lead role in the Police Week activities mainly through enhanced partnership in protecting children\u2019s rights.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs part of the Police week activities, we want to go beyond just sensitization campaigns and identify children who dropped out of schools, know the reasons behind their dropouts and figure out a way of having them back in schools,\u201d said Kangwagye.<\/p>\n<p>Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Damas Gatare, the Commissioner for Community Policing, who is also the coordinator of the anniversary activities, said that prior to June 16, RNP will hold a \u2018Police Week\u2019 that will see officers together with the public hold different activities geared towards Child Protection under the theme, \u2018Stand up for Child Protection.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Police Week activities will run from June 10 to June 16 and will kick-start with the Police Open Day and the launch of the Child Protection campaign. The Child Protection campaign launch will be held at one identified Police Station in each Province and the City of Kigali. At the national level, it will be held at Kigali Metropolitan Police Headquarters, Remera,\u201d said ACP Gatare.<\/p>\n<p>He went on to inform the  youth volunteers that the objective of the this year\u2019s police week is to showcase the importance of partnerships in crime detection and prevention, increase public awareness and responsibility to protect children as well as enhance mechanisms for collaboration in service delivery and accountability.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDuring the week long campaigns police is scheduled to conduct  Police Open Day along with the launching countrywide Child Protection campaign. This will later be followed by the countrywide campaign against Gender Based Violence (GBV),\u201d ACP Gatare said.<\/p>\n<p>He hastened to add that other campaigns will include raising awareness against Trafficking in Human Beings (THB), drug trafficking and abuse and road safety.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>{The Inspector General of Rwanda National Police, Emmanuel K.
