{"id":25125,"date":"2016-05-06T01:32:06","date_gmt":"2016-05-06T01:32:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/sacco-cashier-in-muhanga-arrested-over\/"},"modified":"2016-05-06T01:31:10","modified_gmt":"2016-05-06T01:31:10","slug":"sacco-cashier-in-muhanga-arrested-over","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/sacco-cashier-in-muhanga-arrested-over\/","title":{"rendered":"Sacco cashier in Muhanga arrested over embezzlement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>{A cashier at a savings and credit cooperative (SACCO) branch in Rugendabari Sector of Muhanga District has been arrested in connection with embezzlement of about Rwf7 million.}<\/p>\n<p>Philbert Nshimiyimana was arrested on May 4 after the branch management discovered alterations in the financial records.<\/p>\n<p>Police spokesperson for the Southern region, Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Andre Hakizimana said that after they received the complaint, the cashier, the prime suspect, was taken into custody as investigations continue.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPreliminary investigations have since led to the recovery of some illegal books where the suspect was recording the money that was allegedly embezzled,\u201d CIP Hakizimana said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNshimiyimana had his personal record book aside, which he was using over time to record the customers\u2019 deposits, which he never recorded in the ledger. Now that we have it, it will ease investigations but we have also requested the management of Sacco to conduct an audit to ascertain the exact amount of money missing,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>According to CIP Hakizimana, fighting mismanagement of public funds and corruption is among the Rwanda National Police priorities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe appeal to the public to stand up and report such people, who want to use their offices for their personal ends.
