{The Ministry of Public Service and Labor (MIFOTRA) has expressed frustrations over a large number of public servants and private practitioners working for a few hours and use much of the time in private businesses or doing nothing, affecting efficiency in the delivery of services at different levels. } <\/p>\n

It was revealed yesterday in a press conference as Rwanda prepares to join the world in the celebration of International Labor Day held on May 1st every year.
\nStatistics from MIFOTRA indicate that 31% of Rwandans mature for doing jobs work inadequate hours.<\/p>\n

The Minister of Public Service and Labor, Judith Uwizeye said that such irregular attendance affects the country\u2019s economy and service delivery, stressing the need to mobilize Rwandans to work for sufficient hours to boost productivity.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is a serious problem negatively impacting the country\u2019s fast development. If people work for a few hours, it means that much time is wasted. That is why we request Rwandans to understand that they must increase hours in profitable work,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Statistics from the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources indicate that 70% of Rwandans practice agriculture.<\/p>\n

MIFOTRA explained that people engaged in agricultural jobs especially hard labour are 41% working between 10 and 20 hours per week while people who cultivate their lands and work inadequate hours are 38%. <\/p>\n

Even though some employees complain for meager salaries,MIFOTRA says that the international day of labor will find them well since they live in good conditions compared to the labor market.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is neither meager nor big salary. People paid Rwf 10,000 want Rwf 20,000; others paid Rwf 300,000 want to get Rwf 400,000. The most important is to have a good management of salaries and wages.\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

From 25th April to 1st May, 2016 Rwanda will mark a week of activities encouraging people to work.<\/p>\n
