{"id":24757,"date":"2016-04-20T02:41:15","date_gmt":"2016-04-20T02:41:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/brain-dead-polish-woman-gives-birth-to-baby-boy\/"},"modified":"2016-04-20T02:40:15","modified_gmt":"2016-04-20T02:40:15","slug":"brain-dead-polish-woman-gives-birth-to-baby-boy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/brain-dead-polish-woman-gives-birth-to-baby-boy\/","title":{"rendered":"Brain-dead Polish woman gives birth to baby boy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>{The mother&#8217;s life-support system that kept her alive for 55 days was turned off hours after the birth.}<\/p>\n<p>A brain-dead Polish woman has delivered a baby boy after she was kept alive for 55 days so that she could give birth.<\/p>\n<p>A hospital official said on Tuesday that the premature baby showed no signs of serious complications.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s rare to successfully maintain a pregnancy for so long, that it is at such an early stage, at 17 or 18 weeks,&#8221; said Barbara Krolak-Olejnik, head of the neonatal unit at the University Hospital in the southern city of Wroclaw.<\/p>\n<p>The 41-year-old mother was rushed to hospital by ambulance late last year and deemed brain dead due to brain cancer.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Her whole family wanted us to try to save the child,&#8221; Krolak-Olejnik told AFP, adding that the baby boy was born in January in the 26th week of pregnancy.<\/p>\n<p>{{Cesarean section}}<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was a long 55-day battle.
