{Police have beefed up security in eastern Uganda and at key installations following an alleged warning by the al-Shabaab to attack Mbale Town.}<\/p>\n
The warning by the Somali insurgents was contained in a letter reportedly dropped at Mbale Central Police Station on April 4 by a boda boda cyclist who has since been arrested.<\/p>\n
In response, police have tightened security in Mbale town and also increased vigilance at the porous border points of Suam, Amudat, Malaba, Busia and Lwakhakha, said Ms Diana Nandawula, the Elgon police spokesperson.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have deployed to tighten our security and although it is true that we can\u2019t reach everywhere, we shall do everything to provide security to Ugandans amid these threats,\u201d Ms Nandawula said.
\nMs Nandawula said the arrested boda boda cyclist was giving them leads on the source of the letter.<\/p>\n
\u201cAlready, he has said he found a man standing at Elgon Regional Police block who asked him to deliver the letter to police,\u201d said Ms Nandawula.<\/p>\n
The Deputy Regional Police Commander Elgon zone, Mr Peter Sirikye, said through joint operations with other security agencies, they were working to avert any security threat.
\nThe Sebei sub-region police spokesperson, Mr Michael Odongo, told residents to be on alert and report any \u201csuspicious people\u201d to police.<\/p>\n
