{Ngororero District Police Commander, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Marc Gasangwa has urged local leaders in the district to champion protection of children rights.}<\/p>\n

SSP Gasangwa was speaking to village and cell leaders during a security meeting in Sovu S\u200eector on April 9.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe cannot address matters of security if we don\u2019t start from our homes; in doing so, you must ensure that everyone\u2019s rights are protected in your home, especially the children,\u201d SSP Gasangwa said. <\/p>\n

“There is general need to protect the rights of children, which are violated in homes. Every child has a right to live, acquire education, good health, shelter, and clothing, among others,” he added.<\/p>\n

“You should as well protect children from any form of discrimination or hard labour.”<\/p>\n

He urged them to always keep a close eye on their children to protect them from child trafficking, and give them proper upbringing.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou are the eyes and ears of these children; we need to work together to identify where the problem is and we solve it collectively; there are parents who subject their children to corporal punishments thinking that it\u2019s the best way of disciplining them but this is completely wrong and punishable by law,\u201d SSP Gasangwa said.<\/p>\n

Some of the forms used in violating children\u2019s rights include verbal, child labour, defilement and denying them a right to education, among others.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe must, therefore, treat each child in society very well; every respectable parent should know how best to treat their children,\u201d SSP Gasangwa told local leaders.<\/p>\n

The DPC also reminded them to fight Genocide ideology especially duringin this mourning weeky in whatever form it may be expressed, writen, verbal, physical or other wise. <\/p>\n

The Executive Secretary of Sovu Sector, Jean Pierre Hibukimfura thanked the Police for the awareness campaign, and urged the grassroots leaders to take the message seriously to promote the rights of children.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs local leaders and parents, we have to commit ourselves to ensure we champion the promotion of children rights and report any form of abuse,\u201d Hibukimfura said.<\/p>\n
