{"id":24260,"date":"2016-03-31T01:15:48","date_gmt":"2016-03-31T01:15:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/university-student-arrested-with-16-stolen\/"},"modified":"2016-03-31T01:15:36","modified_gmt":"2016-03-31T01:15:36","slug":"university-student-arrested-with-16-stolen","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/university-student-arrested-with-16-stolen\/","title":{"rendered":"University student arrested with 16 stolen computers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>{Police in Nyagatare District are holding one Paul Gombaniro, a student of University of Rwanda-College of Agriculture, Animal Sciences and Veterinary medicine, in connection with the theft of 16 computers.}<\/p>\n<p>Gombaniro was arrested on March 29 following several complaints filed to the police.<\/p>\n<p>According to eastern region police spokesperson, Inspector of Police (IP) Emmanuel Kayigi, the suspect was apprehended as he was looking for buyers among fellow students.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSeveral students who bought laptops from him expressed concerns about the source of the computers and filed complaints with us; we conducted an operation and indeed when we got to Gombaniro he admitted that all the 15 laptops and one desktop he sold were actually stolen,\u201d said IP Kayigi.<\/p>\n<p>He added that police is currently conducting more investigations to know exactly where he was stealing the computers or if there are other people connected to this theft.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are thankful to the students that suspected something fishy and reported to us; this is an indication of community policing \u2013 something that we always encourage everyone to do,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>He also went on to discourage youth from seeking quick and easy money through illegal practices like theft, where they end up paying direly.<\/p>\n<p>If Gombaniro is found guilty he risks a jail sentence of up to two years as stipulated under article 300 of the penal code.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"spip-document spip-document-11282 aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/en-images.igihe.com\/png\/amapingu1-405x270_01.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>{Police in Nyagatare District are holding one Paul Gombaniro, a student of University of Rwanda-College of Agriculture, Animal Sciences and Veterinary medicine, in connection with the theft of 16 computers.} Gombaniro was arrested on March 29 following several complaints filed to the police.
