{"id":23775,"date":"2016-03-08T22:51:11","date_gmt":"2016-03-08T22:51:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/man-73-almost-buried-alive-by-kin\/"},"modified":"2016-03-08T22:52:23","modified_gmt":"2016-03-08T22:52:23","slug":"man-73-almost-buried-alive-by-kin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/man-73-almost-buried-alive-by-kin\/","title":{"rendered":"Kenya:Man, 73, almost buried alive by kin"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>{Police on Tuesday saved a 73-year-old Nyeri man from being buried alive by his family after he barred the interment of his brother\u2019s wife.}<\/p>\n<p>Mr Caesar Kagima obtained a court order stopping the burial of Beatrice Njeri on a disputed piece of land on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>There was drama at Mairu-ini in Othaya as furious family members accused Mr Kagima of fraudulently transferring ownership of the land to his lover\u2019s 10-year-old son, who was then six months old.<\/p>\n<p>The family members, including his own children, manhandled him, threatening to bury him alive in the grave meant for his brother\u2019s wife.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe either bury my mother or him as the grave will not be left empty,\u201d said Ms Janet Wanja, one of Ms Njeri\u2019s daughters.<\/p>\n<p>However, police arrived in the nick of time and rescued him, but not before he got a few bruises.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the presence of the police, the family insisted the woman would be buried on the piece of land.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe will be buried here at whatever cost,\u201d declared Ms Wanja.<\/p>\n<p>The family was also furious that Mr Kagima had not said anything about the court order until Tuesday morning.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were only made aware of the order after all the burial arrangements had been finalised,\u201d said Mr Joseph Wambugu, a nephew of the deceased.<\/p>\n<p>After some discussion, Mr Kagima agreed to withdraw the court order.
