{"id":23638,"date":"2016-03-03T06:26:13","date_gmt":"2016-03-03T06:26:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/kayonza-former-street-children-introduced-to\/"},"modified":"2016-03-04T02:43:40","modified_gmt":"2016-03-04T02:43:40","slug":"kayonza-former-street-children-introduced-to","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/kayonza-former-street-children-introduced-to\/","title":{"rendered":"Kayonza: Former street children introduced to crime prevention"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>{Police in Kayonza District has engaged former street children and introduced them to the concept of crime prevention and community policing in general.}<\/p>\n<p>The youngsters are currently undergoing civic education and vocational training at Rukara Transit Centre.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to the youth on March 2, Inspector of Police (IP) Eraste Niyibizi, the District Community Liaison Officer (DCLO) of Kayonza urged them to focus on the curriculum at the centre and leave the past life behind focusing on a bright future.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen you leave here be agents of change, don\u2019t go back on streets and be responsible partners identify, fight and prevent crimes through information sharing,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe values you will learn from here should be your guiding tool to a new focused life free from anything unlawful partner with communities and security organs to ensure safer societies,\u201d IP Niyibizi added.<\/p>\n<p>Majority of the youth at the centre were drug abusers, and IP Niyibizi reminded them what they were doing was a crime, but added that the bad experience they got should be used to educate other youth on the consequences of doing drugs.<\/p>\n<p>He urged them to respect their tutors adding that through respect, discipline and eagerness to learn will make them better persons again, who will use  acquired vocational skills to create their own jobs and improve their well-being. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"spip-document spip-document-10728 aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/en-images.igihe.com\/jpg\/92cd134c99.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>{Police in Kayonza District has engaged former street children and introduced them to the concept of crime prevention and community policing in general.} The youngsters are currently undergoing civic education and vocational training at Rukara Transit Centre.
