{"id":23457,"date":"2016-02-24T02:04:33","date_gmt":"2016-02-24T02:04:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/anti-gbv-campaign-goes-to-kirehe-disrict\/"},"modified":"2016-02-24T02:04:11","modified_gmt":"2016-02-24T02:04:11","slug":"anti-gbv-campaign-goes-to-kirehe-disrict","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/anti-gbv-campaign-goes-to-kirehe-disrict\/","title":{"rendered":"Anti-GBV campaign goes to Kirehe Disrict"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>{Rwanda National Police (RNP) has called on residents of Kirehe District to partners in the fight against gender-based-violence (GBV) by being proactive in their communities to discourage the scourge.}<\/p>\n<p>The message was delivered on February 20 during a meeting that brought together over 150 residents of Kigarama Sector.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking during the meeting, the District Community Liaison Officer, Inspector of Police (IP) Gahigi Harerimana, told residents that there is no place for GBV in any society that seeks sustainable development, security, peace and harmony, and called on residents to be the \u201ceyes and ears\u201d of their neighborhoods against GBV.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe all have a duty to ensure that women and children who bear the brunt of gender violence acts are given justice and care, and that that the  perpetrators are punished, to serve as a lesson to others,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cViolence against women and child abuse  obstruct economic development, threatens peace and prosperity, and slows full participation in family and community affairs. We all need to support each other in ensuring that every family lives in harmony.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Harerimana told residents that on top of partnering with law enforcers to overcome GBV, \u201cYou should also look for opportunities in your community  that enable you to participate in advancing equality.
