{"id":23392,"date":"2016-02-21T01:36:29","date_gmt":"2016-02-21T01:36:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/france-issues-eviction-order-for-calais-refugees\/"},"modified":"2016-02-21T01:36:14","modified_gmt":"2016-02-21T01:36:14","slug":"france-issues-eviction-order-for-calais-refugees","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/france-issues-eviction-order-for-calais-refugees\/","title":{"rendered":"France issues eviction order for Calais refugees"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>{Residents of makeshift &#8220;Jungle&#8221; camp have until Tuesday night to leave or French officials say they will force them out.}<\/p>\n<p>France has given refugees living in part of a Calais refugee camp until Tuesday evening to leave or face forcible removal.<\/p>\n<p>Residents of the southern part of the camp, known as &#8216;The Jungle&#8217;, were told to take their possessions and leave the area on Saturday evening, so that authorities can demolish the tented settlement that has formed in the area.<\/p>\n<p>The order issued by the state authority for Calais said police will forcibly remove any one who refuses to comply with the order, the Associated Press news agency reported.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities have not yet said when they will move in to raze the area.<\/p>\n<p>The expulsion order came a week after Prefect Fabienne Buccio announced that the southern sector of the 18-hector camp on the edge of Calais would be razed.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Progressive evacuation&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Humanitarian groups say the number of people living in the affected area exceeds 1,000.<\/p>\n<p>Eight associations working in the camp, including Doctors of the World, sent a protest letter on Thursday to the French interior minister contending that alternatives proposed by the state are &#8220;very far from answering the needs of the problems encountered&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The letter predicted refugees who refuse them could scatter along the coast.<\/p>\n<p>Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve countered in a written reply that the evacuation would go ahead &#8220;progressively.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The order cited a series of problems, from violence to growing anti-refugee tensions among extreme-right elements, a lack of hygiene and human dignity.<\/p>\n<p>The camp is home to refugees fleeing conflict in Syria, Iraq, and Afghanistan, as well as those trying to escape poverty and political repression in other Asian and African countries.<\/p>\n<p>Source:Al Jazeera:[France issues eviction order for Calais refugees->http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2016\/02\/france-issues-eviction-order-calais-refugees-160221041446699.html]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>{Residents of makeshift &#8220;Jungle&#8221; camp have until Tuesday night to leave or French officials say they will force them out.} France has given refugees living in part of a Calais refugee camp until Tuesday evening to leave or face forcible removal.
