{"id":2330,"date":"2012-05-13T09:08:09","date_gmt":"2012-05-13T09:08:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/british-prime-minister-to-build-cricket-stadium\/"},"modified":"2012-05-13T16:02:42","modified_gmt":"2012-05-13T16:02:42","slug":"british-prime-minister-to-build-cricket-stadium","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/british-prime-minister-to-build-cricket-stadium\/","title":{"rendered":"British Prime Minister to Build Cricket Stadium in Rwanda"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>{{Rwanda is expected to get a new cricket stadium constructed by funds raised from auctioning British Prime Minister David Cameron\u2019s most valuable possessions.}}<\/p>\n<p>Cameron who considered a bat signed by Indian cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar as one of his &#8216;most valuable possessions&#8217;, has donated it to raise money for a cricket stadium in Rwanda. <\/p>\n<p>The bat fetched 3,400 pounds at an auction at the Lord&#8217;s to raise funds for the stadium project. <\/p>\n<p>During an event of the Conservative Friends of India, Cameron had spoken how he cherished the bat and Tendulkar&#8217;s signature during his visit to India in 2010.<\/p>\n<p>He told the Indian audience that he was horrified when he saw his wife Samantha play French cricket with the same bat at the Chequers, the Prime Minister&#8217;s country residence, adding: &#8220;I said, &#8216;No, darling, put it down, this is probably the most valuable possession I have.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>The auction, held in the Long Room at Lord&#8217;s, was to commemorate the life of Christopher Shale, Cameron&#8217;s constituency chairman, who was found dead at the Glastonbury festival last summer. <\/p>\n<p>Shale&#8217;s son, Edo, said the event raised almost 130,000 pounds for the project. <\/p>\n<p>He Press that &#8220;We are all delighted and a little exhausted. These funds are the springboard this charity needs to take us into the construction phase of the cricket stadium.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Rwandan cricket team is the team that represents the country of Rwanda in international cricket matches. <\/p>\n<p>They became an affiliate member of the International Cricket Council in 2003. Their international debut came in the African Affiliates Championship in 2004, where they finished seventh. <\/p>\n<p>In 2006 they competed in Division Three of the African region of the World Cricket League, improving their performance and finishing in sixth. They will remain in Division Three in 2008.<\/p>\n<p>Rwanda has a junior U-17 team participating in the East Africa Regional U-17 Tournament.
