{Leaders have condemned the killing of a Egerton University lecturer and urged police to speed up investigations into the murder.}<\/p>\n
Mr Alex Mariera,28, was brutally murdered on Thursday evening and his body found bundled in a car boot outside his compound at Kiti estate.<\/p>\n
Nakuru Town West MP Samuel Arama termed the killing of the man described as humble and diligent as unfortunate.<\/p>\n
\u201cI urge the security agents to conduct a thorough investigations and bring to book those behind the murder of the youthful engineer,\u201d said Mr Arama.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Mr Arama called on Mr Mariera\u2019s family to stay calm as police carry out investigations.<\/p>\n
Rift Valley Council of Elders chairman Gilbert Kabage asked the government to tighten security in the county, saying the recent cases of insecurity in Nakuru Town are worrying.<\/p>\n
\u201cI urge the police to increase patrols to deter crime. Incidents of insecurity that have been witnessed here in the past few weeks are a warning sign and we must deal with it as early as possible,\u201d said Mr Kabage.<\/p>\n
Mr Mariera, who was pursuing a Masters degree in civil engineering at the University of Nairobi, was also part of a team of engineers developing a manual meant to develop ways of de-congesting urban areas.<\/p>\n
Mr Mariera had travelled from Kirinyaga where he worked as an engineer to Nakuru when he was killed.<\/p>\n
His father Francis Misonge told the Nation his son had travelled back to pick his car logbook which he had put on sale after advertising on OLX.<\/p>\n
Mr Misonge said his son informed him that he had found a buyer.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy son travelled from Kirinyaga to Nakuru on Wednesday to collect the logbook. He said the buyers were to pay him Sh950,000,\u201d said Mr Misonge.<\/p>\n
He said Mr Mariera arrived in Nakuru on Thursday around noon. Mr Misonge said he was in the company of people he said were the buyers.<\/p>\n
His mother Lucy Misonge said she tried to reach her son on his mobile phone after he collected the car but without success.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe had been communicating but after picking the logbook and the vehicle, he did not answer my calls. The phone was later disconnected,\u201d said Mrs Misonge.<\/p>\n
A post-mortem reports revealed that Mr Mariera was shot in back of the head at close range.<\/p>\n
