{"id":23077,"date":"2016-02-09T00:09:58","date_gmt":"2016-02-09T00:09:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/police-rallies-rulindo-students-to-campaign\/"},"modified":"2016-02-09T00:09:38","modified_gmt":"2016-02-09T00:09:38","slug":"police-rallies-rulindo-students-to-campaign","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/police-rallies-rulindo-students-to-campaign\/","title":{"rendered":"Police rallies Rulindo students to campaign against drug abuse"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>{In a bid to counter drug abuse among the youth in Rulindo District, Police have reached out to students of Association des Parents pour la Promotion de l\u2019Education et Culture- Murambi (APAPEC-Murambi) to educate them about their role in fighting trafficking and abuse of drugs.}<\/p>\n<p>The campaign held on February 4 and focused mainly of the common drugs and their effects to individual health and the community, attracted over 400 students and the school administration.<\/p>\n<p>Following the meeting that was presided over by the District Police Commander (DPC) Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Felix Bizimana, student also observed the destruction of narcotics and other illicit substances, seized in the district in the past three months.<\/p>\n<p>The substances destroyed include 10 kilograms of cannabis, 73 litres illicit gin, 241 cartons of Chief waragi and several other locally brewed illicit substances.<\/p>\n<p>SSP Bizimana told the students that drugs lead to physical and mental disability, emotional damage, and a decline in school performance and productivity of young people.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnyone who consumes drugs has no control of their actions and that\u2019s how young people end up involving themselves in immoralities that leads to either contracting STDs or unwanted pregnancies, dropping out of school. This is how young people\u2019s future is lost,\u201d said the DPC, warning the students about the dangers of drug abuse.<\/p>\n<p>He noted that frequent drug users are prone to dropping out of school or poor academic performance and called on students to share timely information with their teachers if any of their peers indulge in drug abuse.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStudents have to be ambassadors of the fight against drugs by alerting authorities whenever they realize that some of their fellow students engage in drug abuse.
