{"id":22839,"date":"2016-01-28T01:39:57","date_gmt":"2016-01-28T01:39:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/al-jazeera-crew-in-yemen-released-by-kidnappers\/"},"modified":"2016-01-28T01:39:15","modified_gmt":"2016-01-28T01:39:15","slug":"al-jazeera-crew-in-yemen-released-by-kidnappers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/al-jazeera-crew-in-yemen-released-by-kidnappers\/","title":{"rendered":"Al Jazeera crew in Yemen released by kidnappers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>{Hamdi al-Bokari, Abdulaziz al-Sabri, and Moneer al-Sabai disappeared 10 days ago in the besieged city of Taiz.}<\/p>\n<p>A group of Al Jazeera journalists who disappeared 10 days ago in Yemen have been freed by their kidnappers.<\/p>\n<p>Correspondent Hamdi al-Bokari, cameraman Abdulaziz al-Sabri, and driver Moneer al-Sabai were taken while filming in the besieged city of Taiz for Al Jazeera Arabic.<\/p>\n<p>Reporters Without Borders calls Yemen one of the most dangerous countries in the world for journalists with at least 17 media workers held by armed groups.<\/p>\n<p>The identity of the kidnappers was still not clear, but Hamdi&#8217;s Facebook posts after his release suggested they could have been Houthi rebels.<\/p>\n<p>The Houthi movement &#8211; which controls much of northern Yemen, including the capital Sanaa &#8211;  is trying to hold off government forces and troops from an Arab coalition from capturing the strategic city in central Yemen.<\/p>\n<p>Taiz is the latest flashpoint in the conflict, which began in 2015 after Houthi forces swept across the country&#8217;s south, taking the port city of Aden and forcing President Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi to flee.<\/p>\n<p>The advance prompted intervention by a coalition of Arab and Muslim states led by Saudi Arabia.<\/p>\n<p>Capturing Taiz would allow pro-government forces to advance on Sanaa and further to the Houthi strongholds that straddle the border with Saudi Arabia.<\/p>\n<p>The ongoing siege has led to a humanitarian crisis in the city, with hospitals running low on supplies and food scarce.<\/p>\n<p>Source:Al Jazeera:[Al Jazeera crew in Yemen released by kidnappers->http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2016\/01\/al-jazeera-crew-yemen-released-kidnappers-160128045635695.html]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>{Hamdi al-Bokari, Abdulaziz al-Sabri, and Moneer al-Sabai disappeared 10 days ago in the besieged city of Taiz.} A group of Al Jazeera journalists who disappeared 10 days ago in Yemen have been freed by their kidnappers.
