{Taxi-moto operators in Nyabihu District have been called upon to refrain from illegal activities and use their business profession to make community policing initiatives a success.}<\/p>\n

The call was made during a meeting between police and commercial motorcyclists organized under their cooperative \u2013 CTMM, held on January 27 in Mukamira Sector.<\/p>\n

Assistant Inspector of Police (AIP) Marie Rose Uwizera, the District Community Liaison Officer (DCLO) of Nyabihu, reminded the motorists that fighting and preventing crimes is also part of their responsibilities like any other Rwandan. <\/p>\n

\u201cThere are some of your colleagues who have been caught trafficking or abusing drugs while others facilitate traffickers by transporting their narcotics. It rests in your responsibilities to distance yourselves from such people and instead cooperate with police by providing information on anyone involved in illegal doings, be it your fellow motorcyclists or other people,\u201d AIP Uwizera said.<\/p>\n

\u201cYour profession is of great value to your respective families\u2019 well-being, and plays a major role in the country\u2019s economic growth and development, so you should actively fight anything that can cause insecurity, which also affects your business profession,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

She said that bad riding can also lead to insecurity through road carnages and urged them to respect traffic rules and only operate when a member has all the requirements including operational licence, insurance and driving licence, among others.<\/p>\n

Jean Marie Vianney Gahamanyi, the head CTMM, said: \u201cWe are reaping big from our profession because we are operating in a secure environment, we shouldn\u2019t give room for anything to distabilise it and we can only ensure that if we operate professionally and do away with anything illegal, report wrongdoers and be agents of change where we live and operate.\u201d <\/p>\n
