{Residents of Kirehe District have been called upon to actively play a crucial role in fighting the common tendencies of selling and abusing drugs in the area.}<\/p>\n

The call was made by different officials on January 23 in Kaduha Cell of Kirehe Sector, during a meeting with over 200 residents.<\/p>\n

Inspector of Police (IP) Gahigi Harelimana, the District Community Liaison Officer (DCLO) of Kirehe, noted that breaking the supply of narcotic drugs in the district, it requires collective effort of all residents, to give no room for any drug dealer.<\/p>\n

\u201cNarcotic drugs are a serious menace to security in communities. Some people especially the youth addicts, become criminals and they end up becoming the victims, which we should all fight,\u201d he told them.<\/p>\n

He pointed out gender based violence, assault and theft as one of the common crimes that are directly linked to drug abuse.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe know about a number of cases in this area where due to influence of narcotic drugs, some husbands physically assault their spouses, sell family property which causes domestic wrangles,\u201d he noted, urging them to report anyone involved in drug related crimes.<\/p>\n

Kirehe is said to be one of the major transit routes for narcotic drugs especially cannabis.<\/p>\n

He urged them to always utilize the police toll-free communication services like 112 and 3512 to report any one suspected to be involved in either consumption or trafficking of illicit substances, and other unlawful acts.<\/p>\n

Valence Ndayisenga, one of the residents appreciated the Police message and asked residents who turned up for the meeting to put into action the advise to facilitate police with required information on wrongdoers and be agents of change in their communities.<\/p>\n

\u201cBefore, I was not paying much attention to drug abuse or criminals, but in today\u2019s meeting I have been challenged to be a responsible Rwandan to build a crime-free society. We are all policing agents and while we are in our villages, we are the eye and ear of our police,\u201d Ndayisenga told fellow residents.<\/p>\n
