{"id":22225,"date":"2015-12-31T09:01:33","date_gmt":"2015-12-31T09:01:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/kiziguro-genocide-survivors-welcome-rwabukombe\/"},"modified":"2015-12-31T09:00:58","modified_gmt":"2015-12-31T09:00:58","slug":"kiziguro-genocide-survivors-welcome-rwabukombe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/kiziguro-genocide-survivors-welcome-rwabukombe\/","title":{"rendered":"Kiziguro genocide survivors welcome Rwabukombe sentence"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>{Some of Gatsibo genocide survivors in Kiziguro have expressed satisfaction over the life sentence handed to Onesphore Rwabukombe by a German court.}<\/p>\n<p>On 29th December, the German high court of Frankfurt sentenced to life Onesphore Rwabukombe over genocide crimes where he commanded the murder of 400 Tutsi that had fled to a Kiziguro church on 11th April 1994. He was, by that time, a mayor of Muvumba district in the former Byumba prefecture. <\/p>\n<p>Talking to Radio Rwanda, survivors said the punishment is in commensurate with the crimes committed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe welcome the judgment of the Germany court and the sentence,\u201d said Kankundiye Agnes, a survivor. <\/p>\n<p>Claudine Nyirandengeye, another survivor, that Rwabukombe was at the fore of exterminations of Tutsi who fled to the church where he toured various sectors in a car equipped with arms, mobilizing citizens to go and kill Tutsis that had fled to the church.<\/p>\n<p>The president of Ibuka in Gatsibo district, F\u00e9licien Niyonzima has also commended the German\u2019s court judgment. \u201cThere is a hope for the future, when a criminal is arrested in foreign land, tried and sentenced, it shows that humanity is committed to delivering justice everywhere anytime.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Niyonzima further observed that penalizing a genocide convict is a way of valuing Rwandans, rejecting genocide ideology and supporting Rwandans unity.<\/p>\n<p>Rwabukombe was granted a German refugee status in 2002.
