{"id":221,"date":"2011-05-21T11:34:42","date_gmt":"2011-05-21T11:34:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/debutant-kigali-filmmaker-set-to-receive-award-in\/"},"modified":"2011-05-21T11:57:29","modified_gmt":"2011-05-21T11:57:29","slug":"debutant-kigali-filmmaker-set-to-receive-award-in","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/debutant-kigali-filmmaker-set-to-receive-award-in\/","title":{"rendered":"Debutant Kigali filmmaker set to receive award in the Netherlands"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>A sage known as Voltaire once said&nbsp;; \u2018Life is a shipwreck but we must not forget to sing in the lifeboats\u2019.&nbsp;This is not further than the truth when one considers the life journey of Kigali born radio producer\/presenter and fashion designer <span data-scaytid=\"1\" data-scayt_word=\"Dudy\">Dudy<\/span> alias <span data-scaytid=\"3\" data-scayt_word=\"Mwicira\">Mwicira<\/span> <span data-scaytid=\"4\" data-scayt_word=\"Mitari\">Mitari<\/span> <span data-scaytid=\"2\" data-scayt_word=\"Dudy\">Dudy<\/span> De <span data-scaytid=\"5\" data-scayt_word=\"Maximo\">Maximo<\/span>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/p>\n<p><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Having witnessed the horrific carnage of his family in the hands of the perpetrators&nbsp;of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi, De <span data-scaytid=\"6\" data-scayt_word=\"Maximo\">Maximo<\/span> has certainly come a long way since then.&nbsp;On Wednesday, May 25 2011, De <span data-scaytid=\"7\" data-scayt_word=\"Maximo\">Maximo<\/span> is set to receive the Young African Achievers award in the Netherlands for a movie project that has been a real revelation.<\/p>\n<p>De <span data-scaytid=\"8\" data-scayt_word=\"Maximo\">Maximo<\/span>, 29, a trained electrical engineer, will receive the Young African Achievers Awards after his thrilling yet educative movie&nbsp;\u2018Short Cut\u2019. The movie that highlights the hideous scenes of the 1994 genocide against Tutsi, will for the second time, be&nbsp;screened in Netherlands following numerous rave reviews.<\/p>\n<p>The film, which is directed and filmed by De <span data-scaytid=\"9\" data-scayt_word=\"Maximo\">Maximo<\/span>, features genocide victims who drowned as they tried to flee from the gory hands of the <span data-scaytid=\"14\" data-scayt_word=\"genocidaires\">genocidaires<\/span>, as others were killed and their bodies hurled into rivers.<\/p>\n<p>The Young African Achievers Awards&nbsp;aims at&nbsp;providing role models and mentors to other young people. It also aims at&nbsp;acknowledging, motivating and highlighting the achievements of young people, developing&nbsp;leadership skills and cultivating&nbsp;a sense of pride and&nbsp;confidence&nbsp;in being an African.<\/p>\n<p>The annual awards event is an initiative of the&nbsp;Young African Achievers <span data-scaytid=\"15\" data-scayt_word=\"organisation\">organisation<\/span> that brings together&nbsp;all African embassies based in the Netherlands. The&nbsp;head of the <span data-scaytid=\"25\" data-scayt_word=\"organisation\">organisation<\/span>, Professor <span data-scaytid=\"26\" data-scayt_word=\"Ruthiec\">Ruthiec<\/span> Roma will hand over the&nbsp;award to De <span data-scaytid=\"10\" data-scayt_word=\"Maximo\">Maximo<\/span> in the presence of Rwanda\u2019s Ambassador to the Netherlands, Immaculate <span data-scaytid=\"17\" data-scayt_word=\"Uwanyirigira\">Uwanyirigira<\/span>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>De <span data-scaytid=\"11\" data-scayt_word=\"Maximo\">Maximo<\/span> is later expected to hold a 45 minute press conference with the media. His movie will also be screened to coincide with the closing ceremony of the 100 days commemoration of the 1994 Tutsi genocide to be held in the Netherlands.<\/p>\n<p>De <span data-scaytid=\"12\" data-scayt_word=\"Maximo\">Maximo<\/span> holds an advanced diploma in Electrical Engineering from the Kigali Institute of Science And Technology (KIST).&nbsp;He has previously worked in the&nbsp;German-based radio station- Deutsche <span data-scaytid=\"18\" data-scayt_word=\"Welle\">Welle<\/span>, as a transmitter operator in Kigali before serving as&nbsp;a&nbsp;logistics officer\/technician, store officer and&nbsp;first-aid worker with other employers. He has also worked at Rwanda\u2019s Press House and Contact FM radio station as an adviser and promoter\/presenter, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>At the age of 12, the 1994 genocide against Tutsi led him to the woodlands after losing his entire family. After 32 days, the Rwanda Patriotic Army now <span data-scaytid=\"19\" data-scayt_word=\"RDF\">RDF<\/span>(Rwanda Defense Force) which he later joined, came to his rescue.
