{Residents of Nkombo Island in Rusizi district have expressed frustration of the dilapidation of Rwf212 million worth of guest houses constructed under Vision 2020 Umurenge Program (VUP) but are in a state of disrepair even before serving their purpose.}<\/p>\n

The lodges have been built to promote tourism and conferencing at Nkombo Island but the state of decay casts the objective far from reality.
\nResidents find little interest in constructed guest houses and consider them public fund wastage.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe guest houses are serving no purpose. They are not in use while the land onto which they are constructed would be exploited in agricultural activities, \u201csaid Bazubagira Therese, a Nkombo resident.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou can also realize that there is a problem since visitors return to Kamembe where they can easily get accommodation,\u201d Said Fidele Hategekimana, another resident, adding; \u201cThis guest houses were obtained with the support of President Paul Kagame. Keeping them idle is a big loss. They only host spiders. We have requested the sector advisory committee to address the matter to no good consequence.\u201d <\/p>\n

The deputy mayor of economic affairs in Rusizi district, Leoncie Kankindi, says that the developer handed the guest houses over to the district authorities in April 2015 and have since been put on the market.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe district is looking for an entrepreneur who can profitably operate the guest houses; they are new with a big potential,\u201d said Kankindi.<\/p>\n
