{A new project to build farmers\u2019 capacities so as to boost agricultural production is set to be introduced in Gatsibo and Kayonza districts of Eastern Province.}<\/p>\n

This project expected to last three years from 2016 to 2018, will be implemented by World Vision in collaboration with Japan International cooperation Agency (JICA) under a partnership dubbed \u201cEconomic Local Producer Groups in Rwanda\u201d that will support modern farming practices. <\/p>\n

Christine Mukamugema, integrated programs director at World Vision Rwanda said the project will be implemented at a cost of USD820,000 (Rwf600 million), benefitting 1600 farmers\u2019 cooperatives in Kiramuruzi sector in Gatsibo district and Rukara sector in Kayonza district.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe need to improve farming methods, increase yields per unit area, post-harvest handling and access to markets,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

The project manager of \u201cEconomic Local Producer Groups in Rwanda,\u201d Ryoichiro Mochizuki, explained that the project will as well offer transportation of produce to markets, support savings and credit services among cooperatives, enhance skills to boost the productivity as well as adopting modern farming.<\/p>\n

Richard Gasana, the mayor of Gatsibo district says residents have welcomed the project since it will play a great role in developing cooperatives and individual members. <\/p>\n
