{Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame, shortly after casting his vote in the ongoing referendum on a proposed constitutional amendment on term limits, has told reporters he doesn’t want to be president for life. Rather, Kagame said, it is the people of Rwanda who want him back.}<\/p>\n

Mr Kagame is quoted as having said. “I don’t want. Ask Rwandans who are asking me why they want me.”<\/p>\n

A majority of Rwandans back efforts to amend the constitution to allow Kagame seek another term.<\/p>\n

On when he will pronounce himself on whether he is seeking reelection, Kagame who has previously said he will do so after today’s referendum said: “Let’s see that when times comes.”<\/p>\n

Asked on what he hopes to do for Rwanda if he is re-elected, the president said: “Look at the record and decide for yourself.”<\/p>\n

He responded jokingly when asked whether he is grooming a successor: “Do you want to apply?”<\/p>\n

Kagame arrived at the Nyarugenge District polling station where he voted at 11:20am local time in company of his wife Jeannette Nyiramongi Kagame and daughter Ange Kagame.<\/p>\n

Voting continues across the country with a high turn-up.
\nYesterday, over 40,000 Rwandans in the Diaspora voted in the referendum.<\/p>\n
