{The government of Rwanda and Belgium have signed a Memorandum of Understanding that defines support worth \u20ac 12.7 million (Rwf 10.3 billion) to facilitate effective distribution of electricity to households and government institutions.
\n}<\/p>\n

Of the total, a sum of \u20ac700,000 will be directed towards funding capacity building while the rest will go directly towards electricity distribution across the country.
\nThe project will be funded to the tune of \u20ac13 650 000 of which the government of Rwanda will provide \u20ac1,650, 000.<\/p>\n

The minister of finance and economic planning, Ambassador Gatete Claver said that the signed agreement will strengthen bilateral cooperation of the two countries. In 2011, Belgium agreed to a \u20ac160 million support to various sectors.<\/p>\n

Arnout Pauwels, the Belgian ambassador in Rwanda said the project of improving electricity access is vital for Rwanda\u2019s development adding more support will be provided to different sectors. <\/p>\n

It is expected that the fund will facilitate the distribution of electricity to 30,000 households from three districts of Ngoma, Kirehe and Kayonza, Eastern Province.
\nCurrently, 24% of Rwandan households has access to electricity but the government is targeting 70% households by 2018 and a total generation of 563 MW.<\/p>\n
