{Rwanda Correctional Service (RCS) has received a delegation of five officers from Burkina Faso Correctional Services to share experiences mainly in the program of engaging inmates in income generating activities.

The head of Burkina Faso Correctional Services Honore Gregoire Karambery said his delegation is happy to learn and will transfer some of the best practices they learnt from Rwanda experience.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are beginners; when someone has advanced in any sector, it is good to learn from them. In the first prison we have visited, I have gained much knowledge including engaging prisoners in production for self sustainability in feeding and supporting the government budget. We will replicate some practices in our country,\u201d he said, adding that much has to be replicated in agriculture and record keeping.<\/p>\n

Paul Rwarakabije , the Commissioner General of Rwanda Correctional Service (RCS) shared with the visiting delegation on the importance of getting inmates produce their own food. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt is an exciting achievement to hear that prisoners participate in feeding themselves, others serving through community service and having a central electronic data on all inmates,\u201d said Rwarakabije.<\/p>\n

He said that the policy of RCS involves correctional and educational services where prisoners skilled in a particular profession transfer such knowledge so inmates are released back to communities with better skills. <\/p>\n

During the three-day study tour, the Burkina Faso delegation visited Huye, Rwamagana and Bugesera prisons.<\/p>\n
