{"id":217,"date":"2011-05-20T13:39:53","date_gmt":"2011-05-20T13:39:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/rwandan-envoy-discusses-country-s-health-progress\/"},"modified":"2011-05-20T13:39:33","modified_gmt":"2011-05-20T13:39:33","slug":"rwandan-envoy-discusses-country-s-health-progress","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/rwandan-envoy-discusses-country-s-health-progress\/","title":{"rendered":"Rwandan envoy discusses country\u2019s health progress at WHO meet"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Rwanda\u2019s Ambassador to Paris, Jacques <span data-scaytid=\"1\" data-scayt_word=\"Kabale\">Kabale<\/span> yesterday delivered a key note speech on the country\u2019s health progress at the 64th World Health <span data-scaytid=\"6\" data-scayt_word=\"Organisation\">Organisation<\/span> (WHO) summit currently taking&nbsp;place in Geneva, Switzerland.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/p>\n<p><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In his speech, <span data-scaytid=\"2\" data-scayt_word=\"Kabale\">Kabale<\/span> said that despite Rwanda\u2019s history which saw many professionals and structures destroyed, the country has achieved tremendous progress in the health sector.<\/p>\n<p> These include the introduction of health community workers program, the expansion of the community health insurance (<span data-scaytid=\"7\" data-scayt_word=\"mutuelles\">mutuelles<\/span> de <span data-scaytid=\"8\" data-scayt_word=\"sant\u00e9\">sant\u00e9<\/span>), and increasing maternal health services to the entire population.<\/p>\n<p>According to his speech, the health insurance promoted Rwanda\u2019s health from a lowest coverage of 3 percent in 2002 to 92 percent in 2010.<\/p>\n<p>Ambassador <span data-scaytid=\"3\" data-scayt_word=\"Kabale\">Kabale<\/span> added that under the committed leadership of the government of Rwanda, <br \/> the nation has geared progress in maternal and child health as well as in non communicable diseases has been attained.<\/p>\n<p> As regards Rwanda\u2019s health progress in the developing world, the official said that the <span data-scaytid=\"9\" data-scayt_word=\"decentralsation\">decentralsation<\/span> policy which is being implemented in Rwanda\u2019s community has significantly promoted the ownership and effective participation of the population in decision making which has enabled efficient use of funds and&nbsp;increased service demand.<\/p>\n<p> Rwanda\u2019s Ambassador in Paris also said that the government has put emphasis on the integration of maternal and child health with other health services such as <span data-scaytid=\"10\" data-scayt_word=\"immunisation\">immunisation<\/span> services, family planning, nutrition and HIV \/ AIDS care.<\/p>\n<p><span data-scaytid=\"4\" data-scayt_word=\"Kabale\">Kabale<\/span> also pointed out that Rwanda since November 2010, provides <span data-scaytid=\"11\" data-scayt_word=\"ARV\">ARV<\/span> triple therapy prophylaxis to all HIV-infected pregnant women starting at 14 weeks of pregnancy.<\/p>\n<p>Further, the summit\u2019s theme which focuses on combating non communicable diseases, <span data-scaytid=\"5\" data-scayt_word=\"Kabale\">Kabale<\/span> also said that Rwanda has taken a major step of vaccinating girls aged 10 to 14 years against <span data-scaytid=\"12\" data-scayt_word=\"HPV\">HPV<\/span>, the virus that<br \/> causes cervical cancer.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;\u201cIt is also planned that from September 2011, Rwanda will conduct the cervical cancer screening in all women aged 35-45 years,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Part of the summit health officials from Rwanda are&nbsp;; Coordinator of Maternal and Child health Dr <span data-scaytid=\"13\" data-scayt_word=\"Fidele\">Fidele<\/span> <span data-scaytid=\"14\" data-scayt_word=\"Ngabo\">Ngabo<\/span>, Dr Jean Pierre <span data-scaytid=\"15\" data-scayt_word=\"Nyemazi\">Nyemazi<\/span> from the Ministry of Health and Alphonse <span data-scaytid=\"16\" data-scayt_word=\"Kayitare\">Kayitare<\/span> from the<br \/> Embassy of Rwanda in Geneva-Switzerland.&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Rwanda\u2019s Ambassador to Paris, Jacques Kabale yesterday delivered a key note speech on the country\u2019s health progress at the 64th World Health Organisation (WHO) summit currently taking&nbsp;place in Geneva, Switzerland.
