{The mayor City of Kigali, Ndayisaba Fidele, has called on Rwandans to keep the momentum of engaging in voluntary activities for they have been paramount in contributing to national development.}<\/p>\n

He conveyed the message over the weekend as Rwanda joined the world to mark the International Day of Volunteers held in Kimisagara sector, Nyarugenge district, where he reminded the population that devotion is one of the Rwandan values that have helped the country achieve development goals through both paid for and volunteered activities.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe current development realized in the country is a result of Rwandans\u2019 efforts of devotion and self sacrifice, committed to work for the interest of the country and all citizens. These include various volunteer activities and interventions from top to local and community levels.\u201d <\/p>\n

He stressed that it is the responsibility of everyone to strive for positive change everywhere around the world.<\/p>\n

Victor Che Ngutih, the representative of United Nations Volunteers (UNV) said that no one could be left behind in volunteer activities since it is one of the right and easy ways to attain development. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe must not leave anyone outside the volunteerism loop; we should encourage others to engage in volunteer activities as the world evolves through strengthened collaboration,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He observed that volunteering must play a big role in the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that will define the scale of population\u2019s progress.<\/p>\n

In Rwanda volunteer activities are carried out in various sectors of livelihoods including community work (umuganda), community health work, community policing, supporting the vulnerable among others. <\/p>\n

During the community work carried out this weekend as part of activities to mark International Volunteer Day, communities participated in construction of the bridge connecting Kimisagara and Gitega sectors as well as planting trees.<\/p>\n

Officials from both sectors acknowledged that the construction of the bridge will improve easy movement of residents.<\/p>\n
