{"id":21665,"date":"2015-12-06T00:41:29","date_gmt":"2015-12-06T00:41:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/garissa-university-college-to-be-reopened\/"},"modified":"2015-12-06T00:41:10","modified_gmt":"2015-12-06T00:41:10","slug":"garissa-university-college-to-be-reopened","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/garissa-university-college-to-be-reopened\/","title":{"rendered":"Garissa University College to be reopened"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>{Deputy President William Ruto said the Education Cabinet Secretary and Moi University senate and college council will meet in two weeks and come up with a programme for the reopening of the institution.}<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, Mr Ruto visited the college, where heavily armed gunmen massacred 148 people on April 2 this year.<\/p>\n<p>He was shown the Elgon Hostel, now Ewaso Ngiro, where most of the students were shot dead in cold blood by the terrorists.<\/p>\n<p>{{CRIMINAL GANGS}}<\/p>\n<p>He also reassured residents that the region will not fall into the hands of terrorists and other criminal gangs.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at Garissa Primary School where he attended a fundraising drive in aid of  Madrasa Khadija Girls and  Imam  Malik  Education  Centre, Mr Ruto thanked political leaders for supporting the government instead of blaming each other and pointing fingers following numerous terrorist attacks in the region.<\/p>\n<p>The Deputy President said cooperation between the public and police had led to the arrest of many suspected terrorists, foiling major attacks on Kenyan soil.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI also applaud security personnel from the county commissioner\u2019s office for the wonderful job they are doing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI also want to assure you that the government will not allow an inch of Kenyan soil to be controlled by terrorists, criminal gangs or people who want to destabilise this part of our country,\u201d he told thousands of people who turned up for the event.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Ruto also announced that 53 new police vehicles will be deployed to the region to improve security and help in the fight against terrorists.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the same function, Garissa Governor Nathif Jama said county governments in the northeastern region will work with the national government to ensure peace and security is restored.<\/p>\n<p>He said funds had been set aside to help police increase their patrols.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere can be no development without proper security, that is why we are supporting the national government so that security is fully restored,\u201d said Mr Jama.<\/p>\n<p>The Deputy President was accompanied by about 40 Members of Parliament from different political parties, who included National Assembly Majority Leader and Garissa Township MP Aden Duale.<\/p>\n<p>Also in the entourage was Mandera Governor Ali Roba and Isiolo Governor Godana Doyo.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe appeal to the national government to support the regional coordinator and his team by giving them sufficient resources.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"spip-document spip-document-9630 aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/en-images.igihe.com\/jpg\/college.jpg\" alt=\"Deputy President William Ruto with Fafi MP Barre Shill when he joined local leaders for a dinner hosted by Majority Leader Adan Duale on Friday, December 5, 2015\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>SOURCE:DAILY NATION:[Garissa University College to be reopened ->http:\/\/www.nation.co.ke\/news\/Garissa-varsity-to-be-reopened\/-\/1056\/2985494\/-\/5s92wa\/-\/index.html]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>{Deputy President William Ruto said the Education Cabinet Secretary and Moi University senate and college council will meet in two weeks and come up with a programme for the reopening of the institution.} On Saturday, Mr Ruto visited the college, where heavily armed gunmen massacred 148 people on April 2 this year.
