{Residents of Kinihira sector in Rulindo district are requested to avoid drug abuse since the vice is ranked on top of violence-inducing substances against children and mothers. } <\/p>\n

The call was made yesterday during the launch of a 16-day campaign on fighting gender-based violence, organized by Young Women Christian Association (YWCA).
\nSibomana Donat, the head of governance in Rulindo district has noted that the fight against gender-based violence must go hand in hand with combating drug abuse since the later fuels the former. <\/p>\n

\u201cDrugs\u2019 consumption accelerates violence. As we fight gender-based violence, we must think deeply about its causes to squarely root it out of our midst,\u201d he said.
\nSome residents of Kinihira have correctly attributed violence to drunkenness and taking illicit brews. \u201cRecently, a child was raped by a drunkard. We should all therefore commit to eradicating alcohol, drugs and substance abuse to effectively stem violence,\u201d said a resident who preferred anonymity.<\/p>\n

Uzamukunda Prudentienne, the CEO of YWCA, has explained that the organization plans to craft interventions that reduce the prevalence of domestic violence in a sustainable way through building knowledge levels of the causes, empowering women and annual campaigns.<\/p>\n

The campaign is an international annual activity organized from 25th November to 10th December. This year\u2019s activities include enlightening masses on the dangers of drug abuse. <\/p>\n
