{Sixty four families dwelling at Mazane and Sharita islands on Lake Rweru in Bugesera district, are set to be relocated over overpopulation and difficulties top bring infrastructures on the two islands.}<\/p>\n

Talking to IGIHE, Bugesera district mayor, Rwagaju Louis has said that families will be relocated not later than February 2016 in a bid to ensure their security and facilitate access to social-economic services.<\/p>\n

A total of 40 families from Mazane and 24 others from Sharita islands will be transferred to Batima cell of Rweru sector.<\/p>\n

Rwagaju has revealed that the islands have of recent become overpopulated, making it difficult to deliver social services. \u201cThe islands have got overwhelmed, complicating access to farmland, education and health services,\u201d he said adding that there\u2019re only primary schools and so relocating them to the new land is meant to facilitate their access to secondary schools, health centers and electricity among others.<\/p>\n

Each of the families to be relocated will have a free house worth Rwf 7 million with three bedrooms each, a sitting room, a kitchen and cows\u2019 shelter. The mayor said the relocated families will receive no further compensation since their properties are valued below provided houses.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe relocation will not deprive them of their land. The cost of provided free houses exceeds the value of their old buildings,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
