{The European Union (EU) through Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations will provide \u20ac5 million (Rwf 4 billion) meant to support Rwanda and Uganda agricultural projects of breeding Irish potatoes.}<\/p>\n

The EU has this week started a training aimed at supporting small scale farmers and Irish potatoes seeds buyers in East African region especially in Rwanda and Uganda.
\nThe representative of EU to Rwanda Johan Cauwenbergh has revealed that the training targets to equip farmers with good farming practices for Irish potatoes growing to boost production. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe have invested \u20ac5 million in the project for the period of three years to ease the acquisition of quality Irish potato seeds in the region especially Rwanda and Uganda,\u201dhe noted.<\/p>\n

Attaher Maiga, the representative of FAO in Rwanda said the fund will contribute to promoting good post-harvest handling and access to international markets.
\n\u201cFAO as an experienced organization in food programs is committed to facilitating farmers obtain quality Irish potatos seeds and increase the production,\u201d Maiga promised. <\/p>\n

The representative of irish potatoes cooperatives in Rwanda, Nzabarinda Isaac expressed gratefulness for the training, anticipating it to enable them to increase the productivity and meet market demands. <\/p>\n

The EU has been supporting Rwanda through financing the national budget.<\/p>\n
