{"id":21208,"date":"2015-11-12T00:18:39","date_gmt":"2015-11-12T00:18:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/uganda-support-stability-museveni-urges-dokolo\/"},"modified":"2015-11-12T00:18:09","modified_gmt":"2015-11-12T00:18:09","slug":"uganda-support-stability-museveni-urges-dokolo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/uganda-support-stability-museveni-urges-dokolo\/","title":{"rendered":"Uganda:Support stability, Museveni urges Dokolo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>{Dokolo- The crowd attending President Museveni\u2019s rally in Kangai Sub\u2013county, Dokolo District, yesterday was left in stitches after the incumbent addressed them in Luo.}<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIrio [translated as \u201chow are you?\u201d], said Mr Museveni, a Bantu. \u201cIrio maber [We are fine],\u201d the crowd responded, and then laughed.<\/p>\n<p>Reading from a white piece of paper, the President said some \u2018people think I do not know Lango\u2019, before he asked for a translater since he is not fluent in Lango, a Luo dialect.<br \/>\nMr Museveni said the Langi should not forget his government disarmed the Karimojong warriors who used to raid their cattle.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen we say \u2018support the NRM\u2019, it is not just campaigning, no. It is to support stability,\u201d Mr Museveni said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen Mzee Obote was overthrown [in 1985], the Uganda Army was 8,000. Amin\u2019s army was 20,000. In Karamoja, there were 40,000 guns in the hands of illiterate people, villagers. You know how you suffered here in Lango.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He said then, in Nakapiripirit District, he interacted with a woman who had lost nine successive husbands to lawless, armed Karimojong warriors.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHusband acel [the first husband], otoo (died), husband aryo (the second), otoo, husband adek [the third), otoo, husband angwen [the fourth], otoo, killed by the Karimojong,\u201d Mr Museveni said, prompting the crowd to again spontaneously roar in laughter.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Museveni, whose rallies in Luweero and Nakaseke districts featured a hovering yellow helicopter, arrived in Kangai from Kampala at midday in an army\u2013green chopper.<\/p>\n<p>Crowds screamed as they flashed the NRM party right thumb up sign as the President drove from where the chopper had landed to the Amatiburu Primary School, about two kilometres away.<br \/>\nMr Museveni promised his government would tarmac the 84\u2013kilometre Dokolo to Namasale Town Council road.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, it takes two hours to drive between the two towns but the distance would be reduced to half if the road is tarmacked.
