The truth is the system exists to benefit children, but because most of those children are in the custody of their mothers, that\u2019s who gets the check. The problem a lot of people see with that \u2014 mostly fathers required to pay money each month\u2013 is there\u2019s no checks and balances to make sure those checks are actually being spent on the child.}<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a fair concern, particularly in the realm of the rich and famous, where women reap hundreds of thousands of dollars in child support annually. While we know it\u2019s not cheap to raise a kid (the latest estimate says it costs $245K), we also know it doesn\u2019t cost a million dollars either so some of that overflow of funds most definitely benefits the mother.
