{"id":21010,"date":"2015-11-04T04:35:45","date_gmt":"2015-11-04T04:35:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/uganda-signs-regional-gorilla-treaty\/"},"modified":"2015-11-04T04:35:06","modified_gmt":"2015-11-04T04:35:06","slug":"uganda-signs-regional-gorilla-treaty","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/uganda-signs-regional-gorilla-treaty\/","title":{"rendered":"Uganda signs regional gorilla treaty"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>{The Minister of Tourism and antiquities, Maria Mutagamba has signed a regional agreement to promote gorilla conservation in three countries namely Uganda, Rwanda and DR Congo.}<\/p>\n<p>The three countries share the only remaining population of mountain gorillas estimated at 880 globally. <\/p>\n<p>The regional agreement will also help to promote research and tourism as well as sharing of revenue where gorillas cross from one country to another.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are happy that the three countries have concluded a treaty that advances conservation of the highly endangered species,\u201d Mutagamba said before signing the Virunga Trans boundary Collaboration treaty in the Ministry boardroom at Rwenzori Courts in Kampala.<\/p>\n<p>The agreement was signed by the respective ministers of tourism and conservation in DR Congo and Rwanda on September 22nd.
