The Police have confirmed the arrest of Jean Bosco Mugiraneza, the chief executive of Rwanda Energy Group (REG).<\/p>\n
Speaking to The New Times on phone, Police spokesperson CS Celestin Twahirwa confirmed the development, saying the official was being investigated for allegedly holding in contempt the Office of the Ombudsman.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is true, we have him in custody following suspicions of failure to comply with the law,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
According to the Office of the Ombudsman, the arrest followed several complaints concerning staff recruitment at the energy group, which the ombudsman has been investigating.<\/p>\n
Jean Pierre Nkurunziza, the adviser to the Chief Ombudsman, said complaints about Mugiraneza from different individuals had piled up which led to his summoning.<\/p>\n
\u201cAlthough the case is under investigation, we summoned him and he refused to share with us all information demanded of him by the Ombudsman, which is contrary to the code of conduct of a civil servant,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
