Prof Baryamureeba said President Museveni is over 70 years and should therefore hand over power to young leaders like him.<\/p>\n
“I am coming as an independent, as a new face in the politics of the presidency at the age of 46 years,” he told a gathering at Kibubura Integrated Primary School in Ibanda District during a consultative meeting on his presidential bid on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
Prof Baryamureeba, currently the Uganda Technology and Management University vice chancellor, said old age was the reason some elderly MPs sleep during sessions.<\/p>\n
President Museveni last week picked nomination forms for NRM presidential flagbearer that will see him extend his rule to 35 years if he wins the 2016 presidential election.<\/p>\n
Mr Museveni stated that his aim was to make Uganda a middle-income country by 2019.<\/p>\n
Prof Baryamureeba criticised government for the poor health facilities, saying many Ugandans continue to seek treatment abroad, leaving the poor to suffer.<\/p>\n
On education<\/p>\n
Prof Baryamureeba said the country’s education sector has been affected by lack of sufficient qualified teachers, scholastic materials and poor remuneration. “My government seeks to overturn this trend by building new schools, put up technical schools as well as vocational skill schools,” he said.<\/p>\n
