A group of soldiers then attacked the police station, but were repulsed by intense shooting,\u2019\u2019 said Mr Ali.<\/p>\n<p>Widespread chaos<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;One soldier was killed on the spot, then the clashes moved to the hospital where the body of the killed soldier was transferred,\u2019\u2019 he added.<\/p>\n<p>Another resident, Mr Abu Bakr Alsadig, said the hospital and the surrounding streets witnessed widespread chaos and exchange of gunfire between the police and the army.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Alsadig confirmed that the clashes continued until Tuesday morning, adding that the situation only became calm after the governor of the Northern State and the commissioner of Dongola arrived at the hospital and addressed the warring factions.<\/p>\n<p>The army spokesman was not reachable for comment on the incident.<\/p>\n<p>The police also declined to comment.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>{At least one soldier was killed when police officers clashed with their military colleagues in Dongola City in northern Sudan.} Eye witnesses told the Africa Review that the Monday evening confrontation also left four civilians injured.
