Two members of a Burundian opposition party were killed Sunday night in capital Bujumbura, local sources said without elaborating.<\/p>\n
Emmanuel and Benjamin Kadogo, two brothers who both belong to the opposition Movement for Solidarity and Development, were both found dead Monday morning in the capital\u2019s Mutakura district, according to local residents.<\/p>\n
One resident reported hearing gunshots at around 8pm local time. <\/p>\n
According to local sources, the two brothers had both lived in the Cibitoke, a city close to Mutakura that had recently seen demonstrations against President Pierre Nkurunziza\u2019s controversial plan to run for a third term in office.<\/p>\n
Anadolu Agency could not obtain a comment from the Burundian authorities regarding the sources\u2019 assertions.<\/p>\n

Burundi\u2019s presidency recently announced that presidential elections would be postponed to July 21 after having initially been slated for July 15.
\nThe opposition had boycotted June 29 parliamentary and municipal polls to protest Nkurunziza\u2019s planned third-term bid.
\nThe landlocked East African country has been rocked by protest since the ruling party named Nkurunziza \u2013 in power since 2005 \u2013 its candidate for the presidency.
\nThe opposition asserts that Nkurunziza lacks the right to seek a third term in office, citing a constitution that limits the number of terms a president can serve to two.
\nEarlier this year, however, Burundi’s Constitutional Court ruled that Nkurunziza’s third-term bid would not violate the national charter, drawing the ire of opposition activists.
\nSince anti-Nkurunziza protests first erupted in April, over 100 people have reportedly been killed, while tens of thousands of others have fled the violence to neighboring countries. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
