Davis, 63, was sentenced on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, by Judge Carli Kierny in Las Vegas, Nevada. The sentence comprises 20 years to life for first-degree murder and an additional consecutive 20 years to life for a deadly weapon enhancement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Under the US sentencing system, a sentence of \u201c40 years to life\u201d means Davis must serve a minimum of 40 years in prison before he can be considered for parole, subject to applicable rules and credits. It does not guarantee his release after 40 years. If parole is denied, he could remain in prison for the rest of his life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prosecutors argued that Davis deserved the maximum sentence, citing his criminal history and public statements about his involvement in the events surrounding Shakur\u2019s killing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shakur was shot on September 7, 1996, while travelling in a BMW near the Las Vegas Strip. He died six days later, aged 25, leaving behind a musical legacy that continues to influence hip-hop worldwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to prosecutors, the killing was linked to an earlier confrontation in which Shakur\u2019s entourage assaulted Orlando \u201cBaby Lane\u201d Anderson, Davis\u2019 nephew. Investigators alleged that the shooting was carried out in retaliation for the incident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Davis, a former member of the South Side Compton Crips, later spoke publicly about the killing. In interviews and a 2019 memoir, he acknowledged being inside the white Cadillac that pulled alongside Shakur\u2019s vehicle. Prosecutors alleged that Anderson fired the fatal shots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The case remained unsolved for decades before Davis was arrested and charged in September 2023, becoming the only person charged in connection with Shakur\u2019s death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the sentencing hearing, Shakur\u2019s sister, Sekyiwa Shakur, described the devastating impact of losing her brother and called for the maximum punishment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI spent 30 years without my protection,\u201d she told the court, reflecting on the loss of a brother she described as a father figure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She also urged the judge to impose the longest possible sentence, saying, \u201cI do believe that when you take a life like that, you deserve every minute, every minute of the maximum amount of punishment.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shakur\u2019s stepbrother, Maurice Shakur, also addressed the court, describing the family\u2019s suffering following the rapper\u2019s death. \u201cThe impact from my brother\u2019s murder has been devastating, heartbreaking and sad,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Judge Kierny also addressed the lasting consequences of the killing, emphasising that the loss extended beyond the victim to the family he left behind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYou don\u2019t get to take a man from his family, you don\u2019t get to take his very life, his whole future from him and just walk away from it, especially when that man is Tupac Shakur,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Davis, meanwhile, indicated that the legal battle may not be over.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019m gonna appeal this case for sure,\u201d he said, signalling his intention to challenge the conviction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shakur\u2019s murder became one of the most enduring mysteries in hip-hop, with his music and influence continuing to shape the genre decades after his death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
