The announcement was made in a statement issued by WASAC Group on August 21, 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the utility, efforts are underway to increase the production capacity of the Kanzenze Water Treatment Plant in Bugesera District and the Nzove Water Treatment Plant in Nyarugenge District.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

WASAC said the upgrades are expected to increase water production by a combined 10,000 cubic metres per day within two weeks. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The additional water is expected to improve distribution and reduce the number of days without supply in several areas that have been affected by prolonged shortages, including Kanombe, Ndera, Nyarugunga, Busanza, Kabeza, Rubirizi, Karama, Runda and Rugalika.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

WASAC said it is also implementing a number of other projects aimed at increasing water supply in Kigali and neighbouring areas. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among them is the ongoing expansion of the Nzove Water Treatment Plant in Kigali. The project is expected to increase the plant\u2019s production capacity by 25,000 cubic metres per day before the end of 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis will be added to the 86,000 cubic metres of water that the plant currently produces per day,\u201d WASAC Group said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The utility is also expanding the capacity of the Karenge Water Treatment Plant in Rwamagana District.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The plant currently has the capacity to supply 12,000 cubic metres of water per day. WASAC said the expansion is expected to increase this capacity to 48,000 cubic metres per day by 2027.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

WASAC said the projects are part of broader efforts to address water shortages across the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAs projects to address the water shortage continue to be implemented across the country, we assure Rwandans that we will do everything possible to ensure that water distribution is carried out transparently and that distribution schedules are respected,\u201d the utility said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

WASAC also urged residents to avoid using untreated water from drainage channels, wetlands and other unsafe sources, warning that such water could put their health at risk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Residents whose areas receive water according to distribution schedules were encouraged to purchase water tanks or other storage facilities to keep sufficient water for use during periods when supply is temporarily unavailable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
