{"id":2000122196,"date":"2026-08-12T11:24:47","date_gmt":"2026-08-12T09:24:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/?p=2000122196"},"modified":"2026-08-12T11:24:53","modified_gmt":"2026-08-12T09:24:53","slug":"drc-ebola-deaths-surpass-2000-as-outbreak-spreads-rapidly","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/drc-ebola-deaths-surpass-2000-as-outbreak-spreads-rapidly\/","title":{"rendered":"DRC Ebola deaths surpass 2,000 as outbreak spreads rapidly"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to data from Congo\u2019s public health institute seen by Reuters, 2,011 people have died, while 4,381 confirmed cases have been recorded across five provinces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The outbreak, Congo\u2019s 17th, is caused by the Bundibugyo species of Ebola, for which there are currently no approved vaccines or treatments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Delayed detection, insecurity and strained health services have complicated efforts to trace contacts, isolate patients and contain transmission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The World Health Organization has declared the outbreak, which has also spread to neighbouring Uganda, a public health emergency of international concern.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The speed of the outbreak has raised concern among health officials.
