Kalisa Rugano was born at Rutongo in Buliza region in 1946 and later fled into exile in Congo and Burundi. From the very start of his career as an African poet and play writer he quickly became perhaps one of the Rwanda\u2019s prominent cultural activists.<\/p>\n
During his career Rugano has written 26 plays in Kinyarwanda, Kirundi and French. Rugano says his poems are a collection can be portrayed as the gushing need for the revitalization and rehabilitation of a people who suffered so much torture, \u201cPoetry is LIBERATION!” which was published in 2010.<\/p>\n
Rugano was inspired by the life experiences and teachings of his professor teacher Jean-Baptiste Mutabaruka who wasthe inspiration for the name of his ballet theater.<\/p>\n
In 1980 Ruhgano created a group called \u201cMukabutura Ballet Theater\u201d where he showcases his collections of poems.<\/p>\n
Mutabaruka is also a Rwandan poet who now resides in Bujumbura. He was born in 1937 to Catholic parents in the eastern region of Rwanda, and was educated among the \u201cCatholic Fathers\u201d in the Congo.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
